What is the meaning of 'Raksha Bandhan'?

India is a land of festivals.A festival  symbolises beliefs, rituals, customs of a culture. It brings an auspicious occasion to celebrate the moment; gives reasons to be delighted. People spare time from their busy schedule to get together and take a halt for some moments from  their daily routine. Our country is a perfect amalgamation of seasons, weather, cultures, languages, religions, communities and so on. Every festival has its significance to celebrate it. Like other festivals, 'Raksha Bandhan' has its own mythological and cultural importance. Here, I  am going to explain the meaning of Raksha Bandhan.
'Raksha '  in sanskrit language means protection and 'Bandhan' means to tie. This festival emphasizes the affection, love, care and responsibility of brother-sister relationship.
As per the ritual of this occasion, every sister ties a pious thread called 'Rakhi' on her brother's  wrist to assure him to be with him through all thick and thin and prays for his long and prosperous life. On the other hand, brother takes an oath  to protect his sister from  all evils. This auspicious ceremony   strengthens the beautiful bond between siblings and reminds them of their responsibilities.
